Pro Tips

Baking is very precise, especially when it comes to measurements. Be careful to use the correct quantities of ingredients. If you stray and start adding things, this recipe will not work. If you're doubtful, use a kitchen scale.

Where can I buy Ann Clark food coloring?

You can buy professional-grade Ann Clark food coloring here on Amazon. The colors are much brighter and more vibrant than the food coloring sold at the grocery stores and are utilized by professional (and home) users. I haven’t noticed this brand of food coloring in any big box retailer or grocery store—most likely due to its professional grade status.

If you have problems rolling the dough:

  • Allow the butter and cream cheese firm up before you roll the dough.
  • Make sure you have enough space to complete the dough rolling.
  • Flour can be tricky and it’s best to weigh it, if you can. If not, add the flour to a measuring cup, shaking off excess; don’t pack it or you may cram in an extra couple ounces and it won’t be the same recipe.
  • Make sure the dough is not sticky when you remove it from the fridge. If it's sticking to your hands, generously flour your hands and your surface before you start rolling the dough.

How to make the best Unicorn Poop Cookies

STEP 1: Cream together the butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl. Beat on high until fluffy.

STEP 2: Add the cream cheese and continue to beat. Beat in the egg and vanilla.

STEP 3: Add the salt and flour and beat well. Divide the dough into 4 separate bowls.

STEP 4: Add coloring gel to each bowl of dough to achieve the desired color. Mix well so that all the colors are fully mixed. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper.

STEP 5: Turn the dough out on a cutting board or other large space, sprinkling with flour to cover.

STEP 6: Preheat your oven and remove the dough from the refrigerator. Grab a small chunk from each of the dough colors and roll them into long, thin snake shapes, as shown below. Stack colored snakes together and gently pinch the open ends together to seal. Place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie. The cookies will puff up and grow while baking.

STEP 7: Bake for 11-14 minutes or until the edges are golden. As soon as the cookies are done baking, immediately place a Hershey’s Kiss in the center of each cookie and allow to cool.
