Ingredients in Strawberry Cream Cheese Breakfast Pastry Hearts

Puff pastry. Puff pastry is needed to make the base of this recipe.

Cream cheese. Cream cheese mixes with strawberry jam to form a strawberry flavored cream cheese.

Strawberry jam. Strawberry jam or preserves is key in this recipe as it’s the “strawberry” in the “Nutri-Grain” bar! To reduce the amount of sugar in this recipe, you can buy sugar free strawberry preserves or jam.

Red food coloring. An optional ingredient, one drop of red food coloring gives these pastries a reddish tint. Here is my favorite food coloring set.

Strawberries. Fresh strawberries, chopped into tiny pieces.

How to make the best Strawberry Cream Cheese Breakfast Pastry Hearts

STEP 1: Preheat your oven to 400° F/205° C. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

STEP 2: While the puff pastry thaws, mix the softened cream cheese and strawberry jam in a small bowl. Add the food coloring, if using and stir. Make sure to mash out any large chunks against the side of the mixing bowl. Cover the cream cheese bowl and flash freeze it until the puff pastry thaws (about 10-20 minutes).

STEP 3: Use a 3-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut the puff pastry into hearts. Make sure to cut them as close as possible to make the dough go further.

STEP 4: Place the heart-shaped dough onto the prepared baking sheet, evenly spaced apart.

STEP 5: Use a paring knife to lightly score a heart-shape inside each of the hearts, leaving about ¼-inch along the edges. Make sure to not poke the knife all the way through the puff pastry dough.

STEP 6: Spoon 2 teaspoons of the cream cheese mixture onto the inside heart shape. Repeat until finished.

STEP 7: Evenly spread the strawberries over the cream cheese mixture, making sure to leave about ¼-inch along the edges of the hearts.

STEP 8: Bake in the oven for 15-17 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden.

STEP 9: If you make this recipe, don’t forget to leave a rating and comment!
