If you love s’mores and EASY desserts, then this deliciously addicting three-ingredient Skillet S’mores Dip recipe is for you! Ready in less than 10 minutes, this ooey-gooey chocolaty-meets-marshmallowy dessert is one of the quickest baked dessert recipes you’ll ever find! Not only is it loved by kids and adults, but it costs around $7 to make, making it one of the cheapest and quickest desserts out there!
There are only three ingredients in my Easy S’mores Dip dessert recipe, which include chocolate chips, marshmallows, and graham crackers. If you want a slightly healthier alternative, serve your dip with apple and banana slices, or other fruit suitable for dipping.
To make this easy dessert, you’ll first melt the chocolate chips in a cast iron skillet. I recommend not using Nestle Toll House chocolate chips as they don’t melt well; we like these chocolate chips the best. Once the chocolate has melted, top with marshmallows and bake for a bit longer. As soon as the marshmallows have browned, remove the dish from the oven and serve immediately with graham crackers, sliced apples and bananas, cookies, and any other favorite fruits.
I’ve always been a HUGE s’mores lover and I don’t discriminate when it comes to variations of s’mores desserts. Growing up, I have a plethora of fond memories eating s’mores over campfires at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park, Yosemite National Park, Mammoth Lakes, Mono Lake, Crater Lake, all up and down the west coast! My parents took us kids camping all over California, and I recollect many s’mores events in my childhood. As I grew up and grew older, I realized there are numerous variations of s’mores recipes, and no matter how many times I make a new s’mores recipe, there always seems to be another one ready to try!
My favorite s’mores recipes include Sheet Pan S’mores, S’mores Bars, S’mores Krispie Treats, S’mores Bark, and S’mores Snack Mix, to mention a few. My family likes the Sheet Pan S’mores and S’mores Bars recipes the best.
Where did s’mores originate?
I was always wondering where such a luscious combination was invented. After all, it seems that whoever invited s’mores had me in mind because they literally contain my three favorite things in the whole world: graham crackers, milk chocolate, and marshmallows!
S’mores are definitely a summer thing (although let’s be honest, they taste JUST FINE year round)! When this Quartz’ article was published in 2018, just five years ago, it was predicted that 45 million pounds of marshmallows would be toasted over fire in America! That’s a lot of campfires and s’mores! Believe it or not, the first mention of this amazing trifecta was in a 1927 edition of a Girl Scout manual. The manual referenced the insane deliciousness level of a s’more and named it “some more,” which years later became known as “s’mores.” Fast forward nearly 100 years to today and we have numerous versions of s’mores in cookies, ice cream, cakes, bars – you name it. S’mores are all around us, in too many versions to track, but are unmistakably tasty!
Ingredients in Skillet S’mores Dip
Chocolate chips. You can use chocolate chips or chocolate almond bark. I recommend not using Toll House chocolate chips as they do not melt well. We like these chocolate chips the best and I use them in all recipes that call for chocolate chips.
Marshmallows. Made just like over a campfire, Jet-Puffed Marshmallows are best for this recipe.
Graham crackers. Buy your favorite graham crackers to serve with this dip.
Fruit. As an option, you can also serve this dip with apple slices, banana rounds, strawberries, and other dipping fruits.
How to Make the Best Skillet S’mores Dip
STEP 1: Preheat your oven to 350° F.
STEP 2: Pour the chocolate chips into an 8 or 9 inch cast iron skillet.
STEP 3: Bake for 3 to 5 minutes, keeping a close eye. Remove from the oven as soon as the chocolate is melted.
STEP 4: Place the marshmallows over the melted chocolate. You don’t need to place them all facing the same direction as they’ll melt together while baking. Bake for 2-3 minutes, or until the marshmallows have browned. Depending on the type of oven you have, the time may fluctuate a bit as some ovens cook quicker than others.
STEP 5: Serve immediately with graham crackers, fruit, or cookies.
