How to make the best Shrimp-Fried Rice
STEP 1: Heat some sesame oil in a small saucepan. Once it’s warmed, add the eggs and scramble them. Remove from the heat and set aside.
STEP 2: In a large skillet, add the remainder of the sesame oil and cook the chopped onion and the tablespoon of minced garlic in the oil.
STEP 3: Next, add the shrimp, the three chopped carrots, two chopped bell peppers, one tablespoon freshly grated ginger root, and black pepper. STEP 4: Pour the cooked rice in the skillet and stir well. Mix in the soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, and eggs, stirring well until incorporated and heated through.
Easy Low Carb Options
If you’re on a low carb or keto diet, or just watch your carbohydrate intake in general, substitute cauliflower rice for the rice. Using riced cauliflower instead of white rice will substantially reduce the number of carbs in this dish.
Benefits of Ginger
I’ve always heard that ginger and garlic are fantastic for inflammation. Did you know that ginger has a history of being used in traditional and alternative medicine to aid digestion, reduce nausea, and help fight the flu and common colds? According to Healthline’s article, the fragrance and flavor of ginger are derived from its natural oils, specifically gingerol.
Gingerol is the main bioactive compound in ginger and is responsible for most of ginger’s medicinal properties. It also contains powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, pursuant to research. It may help to reduce oxidative stress, which is the result of having excess free radicals in the body. Free radicals occur from living everyday modern life.
Ginger’s Role in Weight Loss
Healthline’s article reports that ginger may play a key role in weight loss. A 2019 review found that ginger supplementation significantly reduced body weight, and the waist-hip ratio in people who are overweight or obese.
Further, a 2016 study of 80 women concluded that ginger could help reduce body mass index (BMI) and insulin levels. High insulin levels are associated with obesity. Study participants received higher doses of 2 grams of ginger powder for 12 consecutive weeks. The evidence in favor of ginger’s role in helping prevent obesity is stronger in animal studies. Rats and mice who consumed ginger water or ginger extract consistently experienced deceases in body weight, even when they were fed high-fat diets. Ginger’s ability to influence weight loss may be related to specific mechanisms, such as its potential to help increase the number of calories burned and the fact that it reduces inflammation.
