These do not cost much at all and to me, are completely priceless! The time I get to spend bonding with my toddler girl while we paint these is irreplaceable—just like these popsicle stick photo ornaments. If you like this, then you’ll fall in love with my Handprint Keepsake Ornaments and Clothespin DIY Reindeer Ornaments!

One day, when she’s all grown up, she can look back and see all the ornaments her mom made with her while she was a little girl. She’s my only kid so I cherish all these holiday memories and Christmas crafts SO MUCH! We made two of these popsicle stick photo ornaments. One photo is just my kid by herself and the other is the whole family, including our beloved rescue chihuahua, Kala. I love that photo because my husband and I are both kissing our daughter’s cheek!

Items needed to make Popsicle Stick Ornaments

Popsicle sticks. I found popsicle sticks at Walmart but Amazon sells them here.

Acrylic paint. Use different colors of acrylic paint.

Paint brush. Make sure to use a paint brush to paint the popsicle sticks.

Palette. I found a palette at Walmart but I’ve also seen them at Dollar Tree and here on Amazon. If you don’t have a palette, you can use old plastic lids as they work equally well.

Cotton swabs or Q-tips. Cotton swabs (or Q-tips) are needed to act as a paint brush, to dot the ornaments on the tree.

Yellow construction paper. You’ll need yellow construction paper to make the star on top of the tree. Alternatively, you can paint white paper yellow.

Scissors. You’ll need a pair of scissors to cut construction paper and ribbon.

Photo. Find a keepsake photo of your little one to hang up on your Christmas tree for years to come.

Ribbon. We used red ribbon but any color will suffice.

Hot glue gun. You’ll need a hot glue gun to hot glue the popsicle sticks together as well as sticking the paper star on top of your tree.

How to make the best Popsicle Stick Ornaments

STEP 2: Place the remaining paint colors on a paint palette. Use the cotton swabs to dot different colors of paint on the popsicle sticks. Allow to dry.

STEP 3: Using scissors, cut a star out of yellow construction paper.

STEP 4: Find a photo and cut it to fit. Heat the hot glue gun.

STEP 5: Use the hot glue gun to glue all three popsicle sticks together. Follow by gluing the ribbon underneath the star on top. Glue the photo.
