Ingredients in Lemon Garlic Shrimp

Extra virgin olive oil. Use high quality extra virgin olive oil for the best taste.

Garlic. Mince fresh garlic cloves for a much fresher taste than buying pre-minced garlic.

Salt. Salt helps add flavor to this dish.

Freshly cracked pepper. For the best taste, go with freshly cracked black pepper.

Crushed red pepper. If you lean towards spicy, add more crushed red pepper. If you lean towards milder flavors, use less crushed red pepper.

Cayenne. If you don’t like spicy, avoid using cayenne. Just a pinch gives this dish some spice.

Shrimp. I buy frozen shrimp that has no tails and is already peeled and deveined. If you buy shrimp that is not peeled and deveined, you’ll need to peel and devein them. To thaw your shrimp, add them to a bowl with cold water and replace the cold water every minute or two for about five minutes.

Parsley. Freshly chopped parsley gives this dish vibrant colors and a delicious taste.

Lemon zest. Lemon zest from one lemon makes the shrimp taste lemony and fresh.

Lemon juice. Using the same lemon you zested, juice it.

Benefits of Lemons

Lemons are an excellent source of vitamin C and research shows that eating fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C reduces your risk of heart disease and stroke. According to Healthline’s article, the fiber and plant compounds in lemons could also significantly lower risk factors for heart disease. For example, one study showed that eating 24 grams of citrus fiber extract daily for one month reduced total blood cholesterol levels.

Lemons have also been shown to help prevent some cancers, protect against anemia, prevent kidney stones, and help control weight. For more information, read the full article here.
