My family loves when I make my simple Hamburgers recipe because it’s exactly that – SIMPLE, not to mention, is done in just 15 minutes! My easy recipe calls for beef hamburger patties, salt, pepper, buns, mayonnaise, lettuce, tomatoes, and red onion. Of course, you can top your burgers with American cheese (for a cheeseburger), and any other toppings your heart desires!

The most popular food in America is the hamburger, according to In the Kitchen with Matt’s article. Per Yahoo and the USDA, Americans eat an average of 2.4 hamburgers per day, or 50 billion per year! That’s an awful lot of burger-eating going on. Does anyone really eat 2.4 hamburgers a day?! Hmm… That is very interesting! If you like this, then you’ll love my Sloppy Joes, Big Mac Salad and Asian Glazed Meatballs recipes.

Hamburgers can be grilled outside in the nicer warm weather, or cooked indoors on the stovetop. This recipe is for the stovetop burger. It’s hard to eat a burger without fresh fries, so we made sure to include our favorite Air Fryer French Fries recipe which perfectly complements this juicy, delicious hamburger.

Ingredients in Hamburgers

Ground beef patties. You’ll need 4 ground beef hamburger patties to make this Hamburgers recipe. Alternatively, buy ground beef and form your own patties.

Salt. Salt is needed to season the meat. Just a pinch goes a long way.

Pepper. Pepper, combined with salt, seasons the burgers. Use freshly cracked black pepper for the best taste.

Hamburger buns. Any type of hamburger bun will work.

Mayonnaise. We like olive oil mayonnaise but you can use any type of mayo, or other spreads such as Thousand Island dressing, or others.

Iceberg lettuce. Any type of lettuce can be used. We like Iceberg because it’s crunchy, crispy, and fresh.

Tomatoes. Buy large beefsteak tomatoes to place on your burgers.

Red onion. Slice a red onion for added crunch and flavor.

How to Make the Best Hamburgers

STEP 1: Season the patties with salt and pepper. Heat a large frying pan on high heat. Once heated, add the hamburger patties, not allowing them to touch. Depending on how pink or well done you want the meat, cook less or more. If you want some pink in the center, cook for 3-4 minutes on each side. If you going for well done, cook for 6-8 minutes on each side. We like ours cooked all the way through and therefore cook ours about 7 minutes on each side.

STEP 2: Split the four buns open.

STEP 3: Spread ½ tablespoon mayonnaise on each of the eight buns.

STEP 4: Top the bottom of each bun with a hamburger patty, lettuce, tomato slices, and red onion. Feel free to add any type of cheese or use your favorite spread besides mayo. You can top the burgers any way you wish!

Low-Carb Options

If you’re on a low-carb, diabetic, or keto diet—or just watching your carbs—use romaine or large green leaf lettuce as the bun, easily eliminating the carbohydrates in the hamburger bun, but still holding on to the delicious juicy hamburger taste with the typical toppings. You can always opt for a low-carb or light hamburger bun if you’re watching your calories.

Leftovers

These do best if stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two to three days at most. You can reheat them or chop them and put them on top of a salad for a lower-carb option. Other options include using the ground beef in a casserole or wrap.
