Are you looking for something sentimental for the kids to make mom, grandma, or auntie for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, or Grandparent’s Day? This adorable handprint-potted cactus is a sweet gift, straight from the heart! Make mom and dad melt with this adorable kid handprint. This is an easy one that even the un-craftiest person can do! These make wonderful Christmas and birthday gifts too.
This easy and cheap craft is a lot of fun and you can have the kids cut out their own handprints, if they’re five and older as the younger toddlers probably won’t accurately be able to cut. It’s a fantastic preschool, homeschool, kindergarten, first and second grade Mother’s Day spring craft!
All you need is some green cardstock, red or pink tissue paper, scissors, black marker, glue stick, a small terra cotta pot, and some rocks! I love buying my cardstock at Michaels because they have shelves of numerous colors and I always get to pick the exact shade of green—or whatever color it is I’m searching for—when I’m there. They also sell books of cardstock with many different colors but I always adore being able to pick out exactly what I need. I probably really need to invest in one of the cardstock books that contains the rainbow colors, and more as it would save me several shopping trips to Michaels (not to mention a lot of money!). Amazon sells this beautiful green cardstock that would be perfect for this craft.

Tips on Where to Shop for Items Needed
I found the rocks at Walmart although you could take the kids on a nature walk and have them collect bags of rocks if you can find rocks small enough to fit into the small pots. Amazon also sells these rocks and these small pots that would work great!
Check out the list below to get started creating your very own homemade DIY handprint-potted cactus. This is inexpensive too, making it more affordable for people. I actually bought my pots at my local Dollar Tree. In fact, I bought a four-pack of small terra cotta pots there.
How to make the best Handprint-Potted Cactus
STEP 1: Trace the kid’s hand on the green cardstock and cut the handprint.
STEP 2: Use a black marker to draw thorns all over the handprint.
STEP 3: Use scissors to cut a small circle out of tissue paper for the flower. Cut slits down the side, leaving the center free of any scissor cuts as you need to glue the center of the flower to the cactus. Crinkle the flower by squishing it before using a glue stick to stick it on the cactus stem.
STEP 4: Pour rocks in the pot. Carefully place the handprint in the rocks.
