This adorable Dande-Lion spring kid’s craft is perfect for toddlers, those in preschool, kindergarten, and even grade school children. When springtime is here, there are yellow dandelion flowers all around at parks, in our yards, and along hiking trails. We have an abundance of dandelion flowers in our backyard so we picked the flowers from our backyard. This is the perfect outdoor springtime or summertime kid’s activity as the kids can go on a nature walk to collect a bag of yellow dandelion flowers to decorate their lion head’s with! Even though it was in our backyard, our five-year-old still had a blast picking her own dandelion flowers to make her very own beloved Dande-Lion!

Teach Kids about Lions and Spring
Turn this craft into an educational experience for preschoolers and young kids by talking to them about lions, the sounds they make, explaining that lions have manes which is what the dandelion flowers resemble, and talking about dandelion flowers and how during springtime, there are a plethora of dandelions and dandelion flowers. Talking about springtime provides an opportunity to teach kids about the four seasons and how the rainy spring season leads to lots of blooms and flowers.
Items needed to make a Dande-Lion Spring Craft
Cardstock. Buy some brown or tan cardstock to make your lion’s head. If you want to use different shades of cardstock to make your nose, you can use yellow, gold, or orange.
Pen. A pen or pencil is needed to trace a paper plate to create the head.
Scissors. You’ll need scissors to cut the head out.
Black marker. I used a Sharpie black marker but any black marker will suffice.
Dandelion flowers. Take the kids on a nature walk to pick yellow dandelion flowers to adorn the lion mane.
School glue. We like Elmer’s school glue best to stick the dandelion flowers onto the cardstock.
How to make the best Easy Dande-Lion Spring Craft
STEP 1). Use a pen to trace a paper plate on a piece of brown cardstock. With a pair of scissors, cut the circle out. This will be the lion’s head.
STEP 2). Use a black marker to draw eyes, a nose, and freckles. Cut a nose out of a piece of gold cardstock. Use school glue to stick it on the face, above the nose.
STEP 3). Drizzle glue along the perimeter of the head, leaving space for the neck, and stick the dandelion flowers on it. Let it dry.
