Broccoli is a cruciferous vegetable that resembles a mini tree and belongs to the plant species known as Brassica oleracea. Healthline’s article reports that broccoli is a nutritional powerhouse filled with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
My family friendly casserole recipe contains fresh broccoli florets, chicken breast, Alfredo sauce, milk, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, pepper, biscuit dough (such as Pillsbury refrigerated biscuit dough), and grated cheddar cheese, and is done in about 50 minutes.

Tips and Substitutions
Cooking the chicken. An easy way to cook the chicken is to do one of two things: 1) Place the washed chicken in a crockpot and let it cook while you work on any setting. When it’s done, remove the chicken and place in a bowl where you can shred it with two forks, or 2) Bake on a foil-lined and sprayed baking sheet at 450° F for 20-25 minutes, until there is no pink in the center.
Broccoli. You can use frozen broccoli. If you do, use two 16 oz. frozen bags, thawing them before adding them to the mixture. If you do not thaw them, then add 10-15 minutes to the cook time. Frozen vegetables are a great idea and are a huge timesaver if you’re in a hurry and don’t have time to chop fresh broccoli.
Health Benefits of Broccoli
Raw or cooked, broccoli is an excellent source of vitamin C. Just one-half cup of cooked broccoli provides 84 percent of the reference daily intake (RDI) –more than one-half orange can offer in terms of vitamin C.
The high antioxidant content of broccoli may be its highest contributing factor to human health. Antioxidants neutralize damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals occur from living everyday modern life. Eating foods high in antioxidants can actually reduce blood sugar, cholesterol levels, oxidative stress, and slow down or prevent chronic disease development.
Additionally, Healthline’s article states that broccoli contains high amounts of the antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin, which may prevent oxidative stress and cellular damage in the eyes. In summary, broccoli contains multiple potent antioxidants that may support healthy cells and tissues in the human body.

Thanks – I will put this dish on our meal plan for next week. However, what is Alfredo sauce, can I substitute it with something else ? I don’t think we have that here 🙁
Hi Line!
I believe it’s called “fløde og ost” in Denmark. You buy some parmesan cheese, some cream and perhaps some butter, garlic and parsley and then whisk it all together in a bowl and add it to your pasta. Here is my Alfredo sauce from my fettucine Alfredo recipe:
Ingredients:
• 4 tablespoons butter
• 1 ½ cup heavy cream
• 1 cup freshly shredded parmesan
• Salt
• Pepper
• Parsley for garnish, chopped
Directions:
1). Melt the butter in a medium skillet at low-medium heat. Add the heavy cream, stirring constantly. Let the mixture bubble and thicken for 2-3 minutes.
3). Add the parmesan, continuing to stir to thicken the sauce, for 5-7 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste.
4). Remove from heat and mix in with the Chicken Alfredo Casserole recipe (this will be your Alfredo sauce).
I read online that the “closest to Alfredo sauce in Denmark would be Mornay sauce which you can buy at most places.”
Hope you love this recipe as much as we do!
