Bring this festive American Flag Fruit Kabob platter to your summer or Fourth of July barbecue or party! It’s healthy and easy to make, and is perfect for any summer party, including Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day! My toddler who often is not a fan of berries, picked up a skewer because of the marshmallows (what else would you expect from a three-year-old?!), and surprisingly ate the whole skewer—raspberries included. It’s family friendly and perfect for kids and adults!
I love everything patriotic and red, white, and blue! I had a blast making this and gave it to my husband and daughter to eat while I did a couple things. I had two skewers and before I knew it (in about five minutes), the entire American Flag Fruit Kabob Platter had disappeared! I can’t complain—they’re eating fiber-packed healthy fruit. On a 100-degree F day like today, I am eating all things light and summery like fruit. If you like this recipe, then you’ll love my patriotic Watermelon Fruit Sparkler Kabobs!
Ingredients in American Flag Fruit Kabob Platter
Raspberries. Raspberries are low in sugar, packed with vitamin C, and can lower blood pressure and cholesterol.
Mini marshmallows. Mini marshmallows are sweet and make up the “white” stripes in your American Flag Fruit Kabob Platter.
Blueberries. Rich in antioxidants and known as a “superfood,” blueberries make up the dark blue part of the American flag.
How to make the best American Flag Fruit Kabob Platter
Just in case you’re wondering, you do not need to soak the wooden skewers. The reason you need to do that when grilling is to keep the skewers from burning while cooking on the hot grill.
The most important thing to remember when making the skewers is to ensure each item is facing the same direction. Making sure this happens will help with aesthetics and presentation, and will be much more noticeable as the American flag if each raspberry, mini marshmallow, and blueberry is facing the same direction on every skewer.
STEP 1: For 5 of the skewers, we are going to make the top blue corner of the American flag. Holding your skewer, place 1 raspberry on it, about 3-4 inches from the bottom. Add 2 mini marshmallows, 1 raspberry, 2 mini marshmallows, and 5 blueberries. Use the pointy side to stick through each berry and marshmallow.
STEP 2: Now, we’re going to make the remaining red and white flag stripes. You will need 8 skewers to make the red and white flag stripes. Add 1 raspberry to the skewer, followed by 2 mini marshmallows, 1 raspberry, 2 marshmallows, 1 raspberry, and 4 marshmallows.
STEP 3: Arrange it neatly so the raspberries and marshmallows all line up with each other. It doesn’t have to be perfect and it likely won’t be, but try your best.
Serve immediately or chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve, but within a couple hours as these will not last longer than a few hours.
