I never knew what I was missing until I made my own pita chips. This air fried version is rather tasty and much healthier than buying deep fried chips. My easy and quick recipe contains pita bread, basil, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, onion powder, oregano, salt, and pepper, and is ready in less than 10 minutes! I wish I would have realized how delicious air fryer pita chips were about five years ago when I got my first air fryer. They’re SO easy, delicious, and are done in less than 10 minutes! If you like air fryer recipes, you’ll love my Air Fryer French Fries!

After eating these, I was stunned at the level of deliciousness that the air fryer achieved in crisping the pita pieces! When you make your own chips in the air fryer, you wonder why you even buy chips at the grocery store because the homemade version completely supersedes the taste and quality of any store-bought chip.

Air Fryer Temperaments

Air fryers vary and some cook quicker than others. Keep an eye on your pita chips as they could cook much quicker than mine. If your air fryer is anything like mine, you may have three rows of baking sheets cooking simultaneously. When I do this, the bottom tray always takes the longest to cook while the top tray cooks much quicker than expected.

How to Make the Best Air Fryer Pita Chips

STEP 1: Stir the basil, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, onion powder, oregano, salt, and pepper in a small bowl.

STEP 2: Cut two pitas into eighths (cut in half, cut in half again, cut in half again, and cut in half, making 8 total pieces).

STEP 3: Spray the pita chips with cooking spray and sprinkle the spice mixture over each one, coating both sides. Cook in the air fryer for two minutes. Flip over and cook for two more minutes. Serve warm with hummus or your favorite dip!

Oven-Baked Pita Chips

If you would rather bake the pitas in the oven, feel free to do so. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and lightly coat a baking sheet with cooking spray. Assemble the pita chips the same way that you would for the air fryer recipe and bake them for 3-4 minutes, flipping over, then cooking for another 3-4 minutes on the other side. Oven temperatures vary so closely watch your chips as they bake in the oven.
