Crispy, crunchy fried Corn Nuggets will take you back to a summer fair as you snack on one of the tastiest deep fried concoctions ever invented! My vegetarian recipe calls for flour, baking powder, salt, an egg, milk, butter, corn, and canola oil, and is done in just 15 minutes. My recipe is a wonderful game day or party appetizer along with it being the perfect quick and easy weeknight dinner! It’s the perfect lunch, dinner, or snack for even the pickiest eaters!

To make this recipe, you’ll heat canola oil in a deep skillet. In the meantime, stir the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg, milk, and butter. Stir in the corn. Drop tablespoonfuls of the corn mixture into the hot oil, cooking for 2-3 minutes on each side, until cooked through. Although you don’t need a sauce to dip these in, they do taste well dipped in a creamy sauce. My toddler and husband can’t ever get enough of these – they’re SO TASTY!

What are Corn Nuggets?

Reminisce like you’re at a summer carnival as a kid as you snack on these crispy corn nuggets that are absolutely irresistible! Corn Nuggets are a doughy-corn mixture that is deep fried to a crispy, crunchy perfection. Although you can dip them in a creamy sauce, they really stand well on their own and don’t need a dipping sauce – but, feel free to dip them in any kind of creamy sauce.

Ingredients in Corn Nuggets

All-purpose flour. All-purpose flour forms the dough.

Baking powder. Baking powder helps lift the other ingredients. According to Food Network’s article, baking powder is a dry chemical leavener made from sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), an acid (like cream of tartar), and cornstarch. Recipes call for baking powder when a lift in dough is needed. In this case, it helps the nugget dough to rise.

Salt. Just a small amount of salt adds flavor to your nuggets.

Egg. Egg helps bind the ingredients and provides taste and nutrition.

Milk. Whole milk is the creamiest and provides the best texture.

Butter. Salted or unsalted butter will work with this recipe.

Corn. Use frozen or canned (drained) corn.

Canola oil. Oil is needed to fry the nuggets.

How to make the best Corn Nuggets

STEP 1: Heat the oil in a deep skillet until it reaches a temperature of 365° F.

STEP 2: In a medium bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt. In a large mixing bowl, whisk the egg, milk, and butter. Pour the wet mixture into the bowl with the dry mixture. Stir in the corn.

STEP 3: Drop tablespoonfuls of the corn mixture into the hot oil. After cooking for 2-3 minutes, use tongs to flip them over. Let them dry on a paper towel lined plate.
