Ingredients in the Snowman Cheeseball

Cream cheese. Soften your cream cheese to room temperature so that you can easily mix it with the other ingredients. I typically pull my cream cheese out two to three hours before I plan to make this appetizer dip. Use full fat cream cheese for this recipe.

Cheddar. Make sure to freshly grate your own cheddar rather than buying it pre-shredded as pre-packaged cheese contains additives that prevent it from clumping together. According to Cucina By Elena’s post, pre-shredded cheese contains preservatives like potato starch and natamycin, as well as additives.

Italian seasoning. This gives the cheeseball a deliciously seasoned taste.

Garlic powder. A small amount of garlic powder provides a delicious flavor.

Onion powder. Combined with garlic powder, onion powder provides a savory taste.

Black pepper. Use freshly cracked black pepper for the best flavor.

Salt. Use table salt or sea salt for this. If you use sea salt, use half the amount or it will be too salty.

Crushed red pepper flakes. If you don’t like spicy, omit this ingredient.

Cayenne. Just a dash is enough to flavor and season your cheeseball. According to Web MD’s article, cayenne offers numerous health benefits, including providing pain relief, psoriasis treatment, metabolism boost, and potentially reducing heart disease.

Mozzarella. Like the cheddar, make sure to freshly shred your mozzarella and avoid buying it pre-shredded as the flavor is lacking.

Baby carrot. Slice a baby carrot into quarters and use it as the snowman’s nose.

Pretzel sticks. Use two pretzel sticks as the snowman’s arms.

Whole peppercorns. Carefully place whole black peppercorns as the snowman’s eyes, mouth, and buttons.

How to Make the Best Snowman Cheeseball

2). Separate the mixture into two separate balls. The larger ball will be the body of the snowman and the smaller ball will be its head. Place both cheese balls on plastic wrap and wrap it with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for a minimum of four hours, preferably overnight. This can be prepared several days in advance.

3). Before serving, press the finely grated mozzarella firmly all over the two balls. Stack the smaller ball on top of the large ball.

4). Quarter a baby carrot lengthwise (cut it in half, then in half again). Stick the larger end in the cheese ball with the smaller part poking out. Place whole peppercorns as its eyes, mouth, and buttons. Place a pretzel stick on both sides of the snowman as its arms. Serve cold with your favorite chips, crackers, veggies, or bread.
