This delicious gluten free keto BLAT Salad only has 6 grams net carbs per serving and you’ll never notice that it’s low carb! You really can’t go wrong with a BLT or a BLAT, let alone a BLAT salad! You can easily turn this into a delicious low carb wrap if you use lettuce as the wrap, or if you use low carb tortillas or flat breads.
I’ve been making this salad for years as my family and I love the combo of bacon, lettuce, avocado, cheese, and tomato—so our keto BLAT salad includes all those wonderful ingredients. I’ve also topped my BLAT salad with sunflower seeds, radish, cucumber, and all sorts of dressings. The tomato, mayo, and pepper salad dressing is great because the tomatoes act as the dressing, helping to reduce the overall number of calories consumed (not to mention add the perfect blend of ingredients!).
My mouthwatering BLAT Salad contains lettuce, bacon, cheddar cheese, avocado, tomato, mayonnaise, and freshly cracked black pepper, and is done in just 20 minutes! Ingredients in BLAT Salad
Lettuce. We like iceberg lettuce best as it has a crunchy texture. You can use any type of lettuce you prefer.
Bacon. Fry your bacon before you start to prep the salad.
Cheddar cheese. Freshly grate cheddar cheese rather than buying the pre-shredded variety as it contains additives to prevent it from clumping.
Avocado. One sliced avocado is needed in this recipe. Avocados provide numerous health benefits and a delicious flavor.
Tomato. We like large beefsteak tomatoes although you can use Roma, vine, or other similarly sized tomatoes.
Mayonnaise. Mayonnaise forms the base of the salad dressing.
Pepper. High quality freshly cracked black pepper tastes best in this recipe.
How to make the best BLAT Salad
STEP 1: Add the lettuce to a large serving bowl or to four plates or bowls. Top with crumbled bacon, cheddar, and avocado slices.
STEP 2: In a medium bowl, stir the tomatoes with the mayonnaise and pepper. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes so that the juices are absorbed by the mayo and pepper. Spread on top of the salad, dividing it evenly among the salads.
STEP 3: If you make this recipe, don’t forget to leave a rating and comment!
Tip
When you fry your bacon, only fry 3 slices at a time on a large frying pan or cast iron skillet. This helps with temperature control and when the pan isn’t overly crowded, allows the bacon to cook much more evenly and also prevents them from being burned. I prefer my bacon to be ultra-crispy, without any fat, so I flip my bacon often to get them to the perfect level of crispiness. If you’ve never cooked bacon in a cast iron skillet, it’s my preferred method of frying bacon as it takes the flavor and crisp to a whole new unbeatable level of taste!
